Walter Richard Sickert was a pivotal Anglo-German painter and printmaker who served as a crucial bridge between French Impressionism and British modernism, having studied under James McNeill Whistler and worked closely with Edgar Degas. He is best known for his gritty, psychologically charged interiors, music hall scenes, and the controversial 'Camden Town Murder' series, which explored themes of urban poverty, violence, and sexuality with unflinching realism. A founding member of the Camden Town Group and a major influence on the Euston Road School, Sickert transformed British figurative painting and remains one of the most significant artists of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
