Sadanand K. Bakre (1920, 2007) was a pioneering Indian modernist sculptor and painter, best known as a founding member of the Progressive Artists' Group of Bombay established in 1947. His work synthesized Western modernist influences with Indian sensibilities, producing bold figurative sculptures and vibrant canvases that challenged academic traditions. Bakre studied at the Sir J.J. School of Art in Bombay and later at the Central School of Arts and Crafts in London, and his sculptures are held in significant private and institutional collections across India and abroad.
