Rombout van Troyen was a Dutch Golden Age painter active in Amsterdam during the 17th century, known for his Italianate landscapes and biblical scenes heavily influenced by Jan Both and the Utrecht school of painters. He frequently depicted pastoral Mediterranean scenery populated with classical figures, blending Northern European technique with Southern European light and atmosphere. His works have appeared at major European auction houses, though relatively little biographical documentation survives compared to his more celebrated contemporaries.
