Peter Dean (1934, 1993) was an American figurative painter known for his raw, expressionistic canvases populated with carnival figures, clowns, devils, and densely layered narrative imagery. He was a prominent figure in the New York alternative art scene, associated with the Times Square Show and other countercultural exhibitions of the late 1970s and 1980s. His work blended dark humor, folklore, and social commentary in a style that anticipated and ran parallel to the Neo-Expressionist movement.
