Achille-Émile Othon Friesz was a French painter and a key member of the Fauvist movement. A childhood friend of Raoul Dufy in Le Havre, he studied at the École des Beaux-Arts in Paris and exhibited alongside Matisse and Derain at the 1905 Salon d'Automne. His work evolved from vivid Fauvist color to a more structured, Cézanne-influenced classicism in landscape and figure painting.
