Léopold Survage was a Russian-French painter of Finnish origin who trained in Moscow and became associated with the Russian avant-garde before relocating to Paris. There he shared a studio with Amedeo Modigliani and pioneered experimental abstract filmmaking. He also gained notable commissions designing for Serge Diaghilev's celebrated Ballets Russes.
