Lee Mullican (1919, 1998) was an American painter known for his distinctive technique of applying paint with a palette knife in rhythmic, parallel strokes to create vibrating, luminous surfaces that merged abstraction with spiritual and mystical imagery. A founding member of the Dynaton group alongside Wolfgang Paalen and Gordon Onslow Ford, he drew upon Indigenous American art, Surrealism, and Eastern philosophy to develop a deeply personal visual language. His work is celebrated for bridging mid-century American abstraction with a transcendental, cosmic sensibility.
