Jean Barbault was a French painter, etcher and printmaker who spent most of his career working in Rome. He became renowned for his vivid depictions of local Roman people in traditional and Oriental costumes, capturing the rich cultural tapestry of 18th-century Italy. He also produced significant documentary works illustrating iconic Roman monuments and antiquities, published in two notable volumes.
