Jacopo da Ponte, known as Jacopo Bassano, was a leading Italian Renaissance painter from Bassano del Grappa who became renowned for his innovative pastoral and biblical scenes populated with vivid depictions of peasants, animals, and rural life. A master colorist influenced by Titian and Parmigianino, he developed a distinctive proto-Baroque style characterized by dramatic nocturnal lighting and earthy realism. He founded a prolific workshop dynasty with his sons, producing works that widely influenced Venetian painting and later Baroque masters.
