Jacob Cornelisz. van Oostsanen was a pioneering Northern Netherlandish painter and woodcut designer, recognized as one of the first significant artists to emerge from Amsterdam in the late 15th and early 16th centuries. Working during a period when Amsterdam was a thriving provincial town, he helped establish a distinctive local artistic tradition. His work bridged medieval Flemish influences with the emerging Renaissance sensibilities of the Northern Netherlands.
