Giulio Romano was a prominent Italian painter and architect of the Renaissance, and the most important pupil of Raphael. He became famous for his work on the Palazzo del Te in Mantua (1524-1534), a masterpiece of Mannerist architecture featuring innovative illusionistic frescoes including the famous 'Fall of the Giants.' After Raphael's death in 1520, he completed many of his master's unfinished works and developed a distinctive Mannerist style characterized by dramatic spatial effects, bold colors, and dynamic compositions.
