Giovanni Battista Caracciolo, known as Battistello, was a leading Neapolitan painter of the early 17th century who played a pivotal role in introducing Caravaggism to Naples. Deeply influenced by Caravaggio's revolutionary use of tenebrism and dramatic chiaroscuro, he transformed these techniques into a distinctly Neapolitan idiom. His religious works, altarpieces, and frescoes remain among the most important examples of the Caravaggesque movement in southern Italy.
