George Lovett Kingsland Morris (1905, 1975) was an American abstract artist, critic, and co-founder of the American Abstract Artists group, which he helped establish in 1936 to promote non-objective art in the United States. A Yale and Art Students League-trained painter, he was deeply influenced by Cubism through his studies with Léger and Ozenfant in Paris during the late 1920s and early 1930s. Morris was also a prominent art critic and editor, contributing significantly to the theoretical discourse surrounding abstraction in America through his writings in publications such as Partisan Review.
