Eric Ravilious (1903, 1942) was a British painter, designer, and wood engraver celebrated for his distinctive watercolours depicting the English countryside, coastal landscapes, and wartime scenes. He studied at the Royal College of Art under Paul Nash and became renowned for his work with Wedgwood pottery, book illustrations, and murals. Ravilious died as a war artist in 1942 when the aircraft he was travelling in disappeared off Iceland.
