Werner Büttner

Werner Büttner is a German painter and writer born in 1954, associated with the neo-expressionist movement that emerged in Hamburg in the 1980s. He is known for his darkly humorous, ironic paintings that combine text and image to critique bourgeois culture, consumer society, and the absurdities of everyday life. Along with Martin Kippenberger and Albert Oehlen, he was a central figure in the irreverent, provocative German art scene of the 1980s and remains an influential voice in contemporary painting.
