Claire Falkenstein

Claire Falkenstein (1908, 1997) was an American sculptor and painter known for her pioneering work in abstract expressionist sculpture, particularly her innovative use of fused glass and metal wire forms. Working primarily in Paris and later Los Angeles, she developed a distinctive aesthetic that blurred boundaries between sculpture, jewelry, and architecture, earning recognition in both European and American avant-garde circles. Her monumental gate designs, including those created for the Peggy Guggenheim Collection in Venice, stand as landmarks of mid-20th century sculpture.
