Atelier Van Lieshout (AVL) is a Rotterdam-based collective founded by Dutch artist Joep van Lieshout in 1995, operating at the intersection of art, design, architecture, and philosophy. The studio is known for its provocative, functional, and often utopian or dystopian works that challenge societal norms, exploring themes of power, autonomy, energy, and the body through sculptures, installations, and large-scale architectural interventions. AVL gained international attention with projects like AVL-Ville, a self-declared free state on the Rotterdam waterfront, and continues to produce work that blurs the boundaries between art and industry.
