Alice Rahon

Alice Rahon (1904–1987) was a French-born poet and painter who became a significant figure in the Surrealist movement, eventually settling in Mexico where she developed a highly distinctive pictorial language. Her paintings are characterized by delicate, dreamlike imagery blending mythological, pre-Columbian, and cosmic themes, rendered in a lyrical, improvisational style influenced by automatic techniques. Long overshadowed by her male contemporaries, she has experienced a major critical reassessment recognizing her as a pioneering voice in both Surrealism and Mexican modernism.
