Adriaen Jansz van Ostade (1610, 1685) was a prolific Dutch Golden Age painter and printmaker renowned for his lively depictions of peasant life, tavern scenes, and village interiors. A pupil of Frans Hals in Haarlem, he developed a warm, humorous style that evolved from rough early compositions to more refined and brightly lit genre scenes in his later career. His works are highly sought after at auction, with paintings and etchings appearing regularly at Christie's, Sotheby's, and Bonhams.
