Adam Willaerts was a Flemish-born Dutch Golden Age painter renowned for his dramatic maritime scenes and coastal landscapes. He was a founding member of the Utrecht painters' guild and became one of the most prolific marine painters of the early 17th century. His works frequently depicted ships in stormy or calm seas, historical naval events, and biblical scenes set against expansive seascapes.
