Lonnie Holley is an American self-taught artist, musician, and poet born in Birmingham, Alabama, known for his visionary assemblage sculptures, paintings, and performance art. Working primarily with discarded materials and found objects, Holley transforms everyday refuse into deeply layered works that address African American history, spirituality, environmental concerns, and the human condition. Regarded as one of the most significant outsider and visionary artists of his generation, his work has been exhibited at major institutions including the Smithsonian and the Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.
