Alejandro Santiago (1964, 2013) was a Mexican artist from Teococuilco de Marcos Pérez, Oaxaca, best known for his monumental project '2501 Migrants,' in which he created thousands of life-sized ceramic figures to symbolize the Mixtec and Zapotec communities who had emigrated from his hometown. His work blended pre-Columbian traditions with contemporary social commentary, addressing themes of migration, identity, and loss. Santiago exhibited internationally and is considered one of the most significant Mexican artists of his generation, with works held in major collections worldwide.
