Rasheed Araeen is a pioneering conceptual artist, sculptor, writer, and curator whose minimalist geometric sculptures and performative works challenge Western art historical narratives and address issues of race, colonialism, and cultural identity. Moving from Pakistan to London in 1964, he created influential grid-based structures and lattice sculptures while also founding the critical journal Third Text in 1987, which examines art from postcolonial perspectives. His retrospective at Van Abbemuseum (2017) and inclusion in major exhibitions have established him as a crucial figure in both British and international contemporary art.
