Max Yavno

Max Yavno (1911, 1985) was an American photographer celebrated for his dynamic documentation of urban life, particularly in San Francisco and Los Angeles during the mid-twentieth century. His work is distinguished by its formal rigor, dramatic use of light and shadow, and a keen sociological eye that captured the textures and rhythms of American city streets. Yavno's photobooks, including 'The San Francisco Book' (1948) and 'The Los Angeles Book' (1950), are considered landmarks of American documentary photography.
