Bédouin et huit palmiers
1948
A vibrant and energetic composition rendered in colored crayon and pastel on paper, this work showcases Dubuffet's characteristic raw, gestural style rooted in his Art Brut philosophy. A lone Bedouin figure is depicted among eight palm trees in a flattened, almost childlike visual language that deliberately rejects academic convention. The bold, unrefined lines and vivid color contrasts evoke the heat and rhythm of a desert landscape while celebrating the immediacy of unmediated artistic expression.
