8 plates, from La Chapelle Saint-Pierre de Villefranche-sur-Mer
Jean Cocteau's eight colored lithographs from 1958 document the interior of the Chapel of Saint Pierre in Villefranche sur Mer, a modest seaside sanctuary that the artist decorated with murals and religious imagery. Published by the renowned Parisian printer Fernand Mourlot in an edition of 155, these prints showcase Cocteau's characteristic linear style and spiritual sensibility applied to architectural and devotional subject matter. The series, presented here in full margins and various sizes up to 495 by 635 millimeters, represents an important collaboration between artist and master printer that helped establish the chapel as a significant example of mid twentieth century French artistic patronage.
