Miro Übermalt
A haunting interplay between two artistic visions, this work sees Arnulf Rainer's characteristically aggressive gestural markings imposed over a Miró etching, obscuring and transforming the original image with dense applications of gouache and hand-drawn additions. Rainer's trademark "overpaintings" assert a raw, expressive dominance, engaging in a confrontational dialogue with Miró's underlying composition. The work is preserved in its original matting and frame, lending an added sense of authenticity and historical integrity to this bold act of artistic intervention.
