Formulation of Worlds, Selves and Bodies

2020

Basil Kincaid's *Formulation of Worlds, Selves and Bodies* (2020) is a richly layered quilt constructed from an intimate assembly of materials, including hand-woven Ghanaian kente, wax block print cotton, embroidered Ghanaian fabrics, and donated and personally worn clothing. The incorporation of the artist's own garments alongside community-sourced textiles imbues the work with a deeply personal and collective identity, weaving together individual history and cultural heritage. Through the tactile interplay of wool, embroidery, and vibrant patterned cloth, Kincaid transforms everyday fabric into a dynamic meditation on belonging, ancestry, and the construction of self.
