Zhu Qizhan (1892, 1996) was a celebrated Chinese painter renowned for his vibrant, expressive ink and color works rooted in the literati tradition yet infused with bold Western influences absorbed during his studies in Japan and the United States. He is particularly admired for his lush depictions of fruits, flora, and landscapes, including iconic works such as 'Loquats by Rock,' which showcase his mastery of spontaneous brushwork and vivid color. Living to the extraordinary age of 104, he remained artistically active well into his final decades and is regarded as one of the great masters of modern Chinese painting.
