Vladimir Yakovlev (1934, 1998) was a Soviet Russian artist known for his emotionally intense, expressive paintings of flowers, animals, and portraits, created despite suffering from severe mental illness and progressive vision loss. Working largely outside official Soviet artistic institutions, he became an important figure in the Soviet nonconformist art movement, producing raw and deeply personal works that conveyed psychological depth and vulnerability. His art gained recognition in underground circles and later internationally, celebrated for its unique emotional authenticity and outsider sensibility.
