Robert Williams is an American painter and cartoonist widely regarded as a founding figure of the Lowbrow art movement, known for his densely detailed, psychedelic compositions blending hot rod culture, surrealism, and dark humor. He gained early notoriety as a contributor to Zap Comix alongside Robert Crumb in the late 1960s and later founded Juxtapoz Magazine in 1994, which became a major platform for underground and pop surrealist art. His canvases are celebrated for their lurid color palettes, satirical narratives, and transgressive imagery rooted in American counterculture.
