Richard Ansdell (1815, 1885) was a celebrated British Victorian painter renowned for his detailed and atmospheric depictions of animals, particularly dogs, horses, and Highland cattle, often set within dramatic Scottish and Spanish landscapes. He studied at the Liverpool Academy and rose to prominence exhibiting at the Royal Academy in London, earning the title of Associate and later Royal Academician. His works, frequently featuring hunting scenes, pastoral subjects, and genre narratives, commanded high prices during his lifetime and continue to attract strong interest at major auction houses.
