Paul Peel (1860, 1892) was a Canadian academic painter celebrated for his technically masterful depictions of children and genre scenes, often rendered with a warm, luminous quality reminiscent of European salon painting. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts and later in Paris under William-Adolphe Bouguereau, achieving international recognition when his iconic work 'After the Bath' won a medal at the 1890 Paris Salon. Despite his tragically short life, Peel left a lasting legacy as one of Canada's most beloved 19th-century painters, with his works commanding significant prices at major auction houses.
