Osman Hamdy Bey (1842, 1910) was a pioneering Ottoman Turkish painter, archaeologist, and museum administrator who studied under prominent French academic painters in Paris. He is best known for his Orientalist paintings that offered an insider perspective on Ottoman life, often depicting scholars, figures in traditional dress, and architectural interiors with meticulous detail. As the founder of the Istanbul Academy of Fine Arts and director of the Istanbul Archaeological Museums, he played a transformative role in shaping modern Turkish cultural institutions.
