Miya Ando

Miya Ando is a Japanese-American artist born in 1978 who works primarily with metal, particularly aluminum and steel, creating luminous paintings and sculptures that explore themes of impermanence, light, and the ephemeral. Her practice is deeply influenced by her Japanese heritage, Buddhist philosophy, and her background as a trained sword polisher under a master swordsmith in Bizen, Japan. Ando is known for her ability to transform industrial metal surfaces into meditative, color-shifting works that evoke natural phenomena such as sky, water, and mist.
