Marta María Pérez Bravo

Cuban(1959)

Marta María Pérez Bravo is a Cuban photographer born in 1959 in Havana, whose work explores the intersection of the female body, spirituality, and Afro-Cuban religious rituals, particularly those rooted in Santería and other syncretic belief systems. Her self-portraits and images of the maternal body serve as vehicles for examining themes of fertility, ritual, sacrifice, and the sacred feminine. She is considered one of the most significant Latin American photographers of her generation, with work held in major international collections.
