Kcho (Alexis Leyva Machado) is one of Cuba's most internationally recognized contemporary artists, known for his large-scale installations and sculptures that explore themes of migration, isolation, and the Cuban experience through the recurring motif of boats and rafts. His work has been exhibited at the Venice Biennale, and he represented Cuba at the 1995 Venice Biennale, with major exhibitions at institutions including the Ludwig Museum in Cologne and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Los Angeles. In 2014, he founded the Kcho Studio Romerillo, a free art education center in Havana, demonstrating his commitment to supporting emerging Cuban artists.
