Johannes Lingelbach (1622, 1674) was a German-born Dutch Golden Age painter renowned for his vibrant depictions of Mediterranean port scenes, bustling market squares, and Italianate landscapes populated with merchants, traders, and animals. He spent formative years in Rome, where he absorbed the influence of the Bamboccianti movement, later settling in Amsterdam where he became celebrated for his lively staffage figures, which he also contributed to works by other masters. His paintings frequently appear at major auction houses including Christie's, Sotheby's, and Dorotheby's, consistently achieving strong results for their lively compositional energy and historical genre appeal.
