Jean Valette-Falgores Penot (1760, 1848) was a French painter known for his allegorical and mythological compositions, particularly celebrated for his depictions of the female nude in romantic, dreamlike settings. He studied under Jacques-Louis David and exhibited regularly at the Paris Salon, earning recognition for works that blend Neoclassical discipline with Romantic sensibility. He is perhaps best remembered for his painting 'Floating Nude' (La Femme Flottante), which has been associated with early Symbolist themes.
