Jean-Baptiste Santerre

Jean-Baptiste Santerre (1651, 1717) was a French Baroque painter celebrated for his sensual and delicately rendered depictions of female figures, mythological subjects, and religious scenes. He trained under François Lemaire and Henri Gervaise before gaining recognition at the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture, where he was received in 1704. His work is distinguished by its soft, luminous skin tones and intimate treatment of the figure, earning him patronage from the French court.
