Jean-Baptiste Leprince (1734, 1781) was a French painter and engraver celebrated for his exotic and romanticized depictions of Russian life, costumes, and landscapes, which he observed firsthand during his travels to Russia in the 1750s. A student of François Boucher, he brought the elegance of the Rococo style to genre scenes and pastoral subjects infused with an orientalist fascination. He is also credited with popularizing the aquatint engraving technique in France.
