Jean-Baptiste Blin de Fontenay was a French Baroque painter born in 1653 in Caen, Normandy, who became one of the most celebrated flower painters of the court of Louis XIV. He studied under Jean-Baptiste Monnoyer and was admitted to the Académie Royale de Peinture et de Sculpture in 1687, where he later served as a professor. His lush, ornate floral still lifes, often adorned with decorative vases and classical architectural elements, were highly prized by French aristocracy and the royal court.
