Jan de Baen (1633, 1702) was a prominent Dutch Golden Age portrait painter who became one of the most sought-after court portraitists of his era. He painted numerous members of European royalty and aristocracy, including King Charles II of England and Stadholder William III of Orange. De Baen is also known for his dramatic depiction of the lynching of the De Witt brothers in 1672, a historically significant work reflecting the turbulent politics of his time.
