Jagdish Swaminathan was a painter who founded the Group 1890 manifesto rejecting Western influences and developed a unique visual language combining simplified forms, flat color planes, and references to Indian folk and tribal art. His paintings featured birds, trees, and geometric landscapes in a distinctive style. He was also founding director of the Bharat Bhavan museum and influenced generations of Indian artists.
