Jacopo Alessandro Calvi, known as 'il Sordino' (the mute), was an Italian Baroque painter born in Bologna in 1740, a pupil of Ercole Graziani the Younger. He was a prominent member of the Bolognese school, celebrated for his religious and mythological compositions that reflected the grand tradition of the Carracci and their followers. His works appeared frequently in Bolognese churches and collections, and he remained active in his native city until his death in 1815.
