Jack Leonard Shadbolt (1909, 1998) was one of Canada's most celebrated modernist painters, known for his vibrant, symbolically rich works that synthesized Indigenous Pacific Northwest imagery with European modernist influences. Trained in London and Paris, he developed a distinctive style blending abstraction with organic, mythological, and natural forms. His prolific career spanned decades and earned him numerous honours, including Companion of the Order of Canada.
