Henri de Caisne (1799, 1852) was a Belgian-born French painter known for his refined portraits and religious compositions executed in the Romantic tradition. A student of Jacques-Louis David and François Gérard, he gained recognition at the Paris Salon and was patronized by the French royal court. His work is characterized by delicate draftsmanship, luminous flesh tones, and an elegant idealization of his subjects.
