Gonkar Gyatso is a Tibetan-born contemporary artist whose work explores the collision of Tibetan Buddhist tradition with Western pop culture and the complexities of cultural identity under globalization. Raised in Lhasa and educated in China before relocating to London and later Boston, his practice spans painting, collage, and installation, often incorporating imagery drawn from advertising, consumer culture, and sacred iconography. He is widely recognized for his distinctive technique of assembling thousands of tiny stickers and cut-out images to create layered portraits and figures that interrogate diaspora, spirituality, and modernity.
