Gerard Dillon

Gerard Dillon (1916, 1971) was an Irish self-taught painter celebrated for his vivid, semi-abstract depictions of Connemara life, circus performers, and the landscapes of his native Belfast. His work blends folk art sensibilities with modernist influences, characterized by bold colors, flattened forms, and a deeply personal symbolism. Dillon is regarded as one of the most distinctive and beloved Irish artists of the twentieth century, with his paintings regularly achieving strong results at Irish auction houses.
