Gabriel-Jacques de Saint-Aubin (1724, 1780) was a prolific French draughtsman and printmaker celebrated for his vivid, spontaneous sketches of Parisian life, theater, and society during the Ancien Régime. Despite rarely achieving the official recognition he sought from the Académie Royale, he produced an extraordinary body of work documenting the cultural vibrancy of 18th-century Paris, including his famous annotated auction and exhibition catalogues. His drawings are prized by collectors for their wit, immediacy, and remarkable documentary value.
